Strengthening Women’s Voice in Community Development Ensuring Women Participate in Decisions That Affect Their Lives
The Challenge
Women in many rural communities are often excluded from decision-making processes in governance, development planning, and community leadership.
This exclusion limits their ability to influence policies and development initiatives that directly affect their livelihoods.
Our Intervention
Through the Action for Voice and Inclusive Development (AVID) program, DFWC supported women to strengthen their voice in local governance and development processes.
The initiative focused on:
- Leadership and advocacy training for women
- Civic education and rights awareness
- Strengthening women’s participation in community meetings
- Supporting dialogue between women and local authorities
The Impact
- Women gained confidence to participate in community governance.
- Women leaders emerged within community structures.
- Communities became more inclusive in decision-making processes.
- Women’s voices began influencing development activities.
Why It Matters
Inclusive development requires the participation of all members of society.
When women are included in leadership and governance, development programs become more responsive and sustainable.
