For years, many women in rural communities participated very little in public decision-making. Community meetings were often dominated by men, while women remained silent observers.
But today, something is changing.
Through leadership and advocacy training organized by Development Frontiers Women Cooperatives, women are stepping forward to lead, speak, and influence development decisions.
Meet Sey Alima: A Leader Emerging from Kakoshie
Sey Alima once believed leadership roles were only for a few people in the community.
“I used to sit quietly during meetings,” she says.
“I felt my opinion did not matter.”
Everything changed when she participated in DFWC’s leadership and advocacy training.
A Turning Point: Learning the Power of Participation
During the training, women learned:
- Leadership skills
- Community advocacy
- How to confidently express their views
- The importance of women’s participation in development
For Sey Alima, the training opened a new door.
